Stacker 2 Review

Stacker 2 is a weight loss supplement which claims to burn fat. The Stacker 2 website claims, “Stacker 2’s proprietary blend is designed for those who are in search of a powerful fat burning diet supplement. This formula when taken as directed and combined with a reduced calorie diet and exercise program may help burn fat, cut cravings and combat diet fatigue.”

The wording of this claim is interesting. Not only do they not disclose how much of each ingredient their “proprietary blend” actually contains, but they do not guarantee it will work. Instead, they say it “may help” if combined with proper diet and exercise. At least they are honest that it may not work, unlike most other weight loss supplement companies.

Stacker 2 Ingredients

Stacker 2 is full of some fairly strange ingredients. The following is the ingredient list found on the Stacker 2 package:

The Proprietary Blend is 198mg.
Kola Nut (seeds) (3mg caffeine group alkaloids), Yerba Mate (leaves), Cassia Mimosoides Extract (leaves/stems/pods), White Willow Bark, Caffeine (anhydrous) 200mg, Tri-GuggLyptoid3 Complex™ 25mg*
Green Tea (leaves) (< 1 mg caffeine group alkaloids), Guggulsterone (whole plant), Gymnema (Leaves).

The Kola nut is supposed to diminish sensations of hunger and fatigue and also to aid in digestion.
No studies have actually proven this to be true. One study even found the following concern:

“The more pressing issue however, is that there seem to be real cancer-related concerns with at least the tannin in this extract. Long term use could have significant affects on overall health.”

Yerba mate’ contains mainly caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine. These ingredients supposedly promote central nervous stimulation and help the body to shed water as well as suppress appetite. Additionally, caffeine, theophylline and theobromine appear to suppress appetite, and boost metabolism.
However, there is not adequate research to support this. (As an aside, when you combine Yerba Mate with a few other key ingredients, the effect is great — as shown by some interesting research).

Cassia Mimosoides Extract is thought to be a lipase inhibitor. Some studies in rats have shown fat loss, but no studies have been performed on humans.

Green tea is one ingredient we do like to see in diet pills. There are mountains of research showing that it can be effective (when included at a high enough dose) in increasing your metabolic rate. You can read our much more thorough green tea review if you want more information.

Guggulsterone is an herb which has been proven to increase thyroid output, which can, in turn, increase metabolism. Research has shown that taking 1.5-3 grams of Guggulsterones daily significantly increase metabolism. ((http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10740691?dopt=Abstract))

Interesting enough, Stacker 2 does not disclose how much Gugglusterone is contained in each capsule. However, it does list the total Tri-GuggLyptoid3 Complex™ at 25mg per capsule. Thus, it is impossible to get the 1.5 grams needed daily to make a difference.

Gymnema is used to treat water retention (relatively effectively).

Side Effects of Stacker 2

Stacker 2 has several side effects, including some that could be quite serious. These side effects include dizziness or light-headedness, headaches, and increased heart rate or blood pressure. The high amount of caffeine can also cause sleeplessness and jitters. Be your own best judge on how caffeine affects you.

Stacker 2 Review Conclusion

Stacker 2 is made of unproven ingredients in undisclosed amounts. This is not the supplement you are looking for. Look for a weight loss supplement that has proven ingredients in correct (clincially-researched) amounts.
