CritiCalorie's Top Diet Pill Pick
Do we ever rate a diet pill positively?. Yes (rarely). Why aren't we recommending Leptopril? We're looking for clinically-researched ingredients, at the right (that means clinical) dosage. There are a few diet pills that have chosen this better route, and our favorite is Apidexin. You can read our review or go to the official site.
Leptopril Review
Leptopril is the generic sidekick of Leptoprin. I say sidekick, because the distributors of both Leptopril and Leptoprin are one and the same. Leptopril is distributed under the Generix Labs name. Generixlabs.com is registered to Western Holdings, LLC. Western Holdings, LLC. Leptoprin.com is also registered under Western Holdings, LLC. The adminstrative contact, Pam Hiett, though located at Western Holdings LLC, has an email address at basicresearch.org.
Basic Research, based in Salt Lake City, UT, is scum.
So I should probably just end it right here, and let you make the obvious logical next step: If the company is scum, the product is scum.
As I mentioned in my review of Leptoprin, Basic Research, and all of the other companies it owns, or is affiliated with has had some major FTC problems. In a complaint filed by the FTC in 2004, the following were listed as respondents:
- Basic Research LLC
- AG Waterhouse LLC (the name that Leptoprin is distributed under)
- Klein-Becker usa LLC
- Nutrasport LLC
- Sovage Dermalogic Laboratories LLC
- BAN LLC
- Dennis Gay
- Daniel B. Mowrey, Ph.D (also DBA American Phytotherapy Research Laboratory) and
- Mitchell K. Friedlander
The FTC alleges that the “respondents violated the FTC Act by making unsubstantiated fat and weight loss claims, false claims that clinical testing proves certain efficacy claims, and false claims that Daniel B. Mowrey, Ph.D, is a medical doctor.”
The complaint was eventually settled, with Basic Research agreeing to pay $3 million1 (a drop in the bucket when you have 2000% margins).
They don’t really learn their lesson well though. Here’s a complaint letter against Basic Research, issued by the FDA.
The fact that Leptopril is marketed by the same company to simply appeal to a different consumer market for a different price point is horrible. Even if the stuff did work, I wouldn’t give them a cent of my business. Heck, their generic version still sells for $74. What a ripoff.
Avoid Leptopril. As a matter of fact, avoid Basic Research all together. They also make Relacore, Strivectin-SD, Zantrex 3 (which is pitched a lot like Leptoprin), Dermalin, Mamralin, and TestroGel. That list isn’t inclusive by any means — they’re a huge company — but it’s a start.
