CritiCalorie's Top Diet Pill Pick
Do we ever rate a diet pill positively?. Yes (rarely). Why aren't we recommending Avesil? We're looking for clinically-researched ingredients, at the right (that means clinical) dosage. There are a few diet pills that have chosen this better route, and our favorite is Boda Extract No. 3. You can read our review or go to the official site.
Avesil is “a safe, effective weight control formula made from ingredients supported by substantial published scientific research” (website). Surprisingly, this is accurate. However, this Avesil review finds Avesil is far too expensive.
Hydroxycitric Acid Update
On May 1, 2009 the FDA issued a warning to consumers to stop taking Hydroxycut-branded products. Over more than 7 years they have received 23 reports of health related issues with those taking Hydroxycut-branded products. The main health concern appears to be serious liver-related problems. Iovate Health Sciences Inc., the makers of Hydroxcut, have voluntarily recalled all of the products under question in the FDA’s report
Common symptoms of liver complications include:
- jaundice (yellowing of the skin)
- brown urine
- light colored stools
- unusual tiredness
- stomach pain
- loss of appetite
In light of the recent FDA warning concerning the possible dangers of Hydroxycut-branded diet pills, many believe that the associated health risks are likely due to the inclusion of the commonly used ingredient Hydroxycitric Acid, or HCA. And while according to the FDA, “The agency has not yet determined which ingredients, dosages, or other health-related factors may be associated with risks related to these Hydroxycut products. The products contain a variety of ingredients and herbal extracts.” you can never be too cautious.
So, while further study and research is needed to confirm the link between HCA and the liver problems, until proven otherwise any products that contain HCA are no longer recommended on this website.
Calcium (150 mg) is healthy, but it does not cause weight loss.
Chromium (133 mcg) has shown varying results in clinical studies.
Potassium (210 mg) does not cause weight loss.
Garcinia Cambogia (1500 mg) has been proven to contribute to weight loss.
Green Tea (150 mg) has been shown to cause weight loss when used in doses of 300 mg or more per day. This Avesil review finds if you take the recommended dosage of Avesil diet pills, you will get enough green tea to contribute to weight loss.
Caffeine anhydrous (50 mg) does cause weight loss by increasing metabolic rate. However, this relatively low amount of caffeine will not do much.
I must give a hand to Avesil on one point. They’ve fully disclosed the amounts of each ingredient in the pill which is something that’s not seen very often in this industry. If more companies did this, the industry as a whole would be much better off.
Avesil diet pills cost $89.95 for 180 capsules (a one month supply). Although Avesil does contain a few proven ingredients in appropriate amounts, $89.95 is an outrageous price. You can find multiple diet pills that are just as effective (or more effective) at causing weight loss for a much lower price. Look through our recommended products for one.
Avesil Side Effects
Side effects of Avesil include headaches and increased heart rate.
The Avesil website says they have a “no-questions-asked 100% money-back guarantee.” The website gives no other information on their guarantee other than that you have to have a Return Merchandise Authorization in order to return Avesil. They do not specify how long you have to return the product.
Avesil Free Trial
Avesil has a “risk-free” 14 day trial. It is typical of free trials offered by multiple diet pills. You have to read the fine print or you will be in for a shock. If you don’t cancel the free trial within the 14 days window, you will be charged $89.95and enrolled in autoship (they automatically ship you more product every month and charge your credit card).
This Avesil review finds Avesil diet pills do contain a few proven ingredients in proven amounts. It will cause weight loss. However, Avesil is way too expensive. You can get the same (or better) weight loss results for much less with several other diet pills.
